Linda Lighton studied painting and ceramics at the Factory of Visual Arts in Seattle, Washington, from 1971-1974 with David Furman, Margaret Ford, and Patti Warashina among others. She lived on the Colville Indian Reservation from 1974-1976, and then went to the University of Idaho, 1975-1976. In 1989 she received a BFA, with honors, from the Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, Missouri.

Linda has had 46 solo shows since 1974 and participated in more than 117 group exhibitions including the 1st World Bienniale in Icheon, Korea, 2001; International Bienal de Manises, Valencia, Spain; 2006 20th Icheon Ceramic Festival, Icheon, Korea; 2006 World Clay at the Latvian National Museum, Riga, Latvia; and in 2006 at the Ariana Museum in Geneva, Switzerland.

Linda is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics. She has had the opportunity represent the United States in Latvia at international symposiums in 1992 and 1998. She has participated in residencies at the Jiesia Bone China Factory, Kaunas, Lithuania in 1993; International Workshop for Ceramic Artists in Tokoname, Japan in 1996; International Ceramic Workshop, Kecskemet, Hungary in 2003; and the Binyamini Foundation and the Israeli Ceramic Artists Association in 2005. Linda just returned from Fuping, China, where she made work for the new FuLe International Ceramic Museum.


Linda is an arts advocate and activist in Kansas City. She helped instigate the One Percent for Arts Program in Kansas City as it is administered today. Linda serves on the National Committee at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, the Kansas City Ballet Board, and administers the Lighton International Artists Exchange Program at the Kansas City Artists Coalition.

Linda's work is in many national and international collections, among them the Daum Museum, Sedalia, Missouri; Nerman Museum, Johnson County, Kansas; Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City; Kahn Steel; International Ceramic Museum, Icheon, Korea; FuLe International Ceramic Museum, Fuping China; Ariana Museum, Geneva, Switzerland; International Ceramic Center, Kecskemet, Hungary; University of Ohio, Columbus; Shook, Hardy and Bacon Law Firm, Kansas City, Missouri.
